Cyclists get the red carpet in France… a stretch of highway between Saintes and st. Jean d’angely.
First internet access in a few days, at hostel in poitiers. Did the whole 93 miles from saintes to here today, because there was nowhere to stay in niort. Didn’t start on the last forty miles until 5pm, but pulled it off in about three hours due to a lovely tailwind. Still, more than I wanted to bike in one day… about ten hours of active pedaling, with only a brief stop early on in st jean to look at the church ruins.
I hope to be in Paris in four or five days. I’ve been told that poitiers is a lively university town, but when the next closest place to stay (tours) is fifty miles away, its impossible to linger without spending an extra day.
I’ve got upwards of 500 photos and 40 pages of notes from the last two weeks. Maybe I’ll start covering a few days every day once I have more reliable internet in Paris.
I never thought I’d be thankful for grade school French classes.
